Mixed Media Cyanotype
"Pictures from the Past"
The project was inspired by things of the past to have that worn down look. In the process of making this piece I went through several steps in adobe photoshop to edit three photographs I took. After I changed the brightness and contrast of the black and white photos, I printed them onto clear sheets to make my own negatives. A combination of two light sensitive chemicals (ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide) was painted onto old envelopes in a darkroom. The ephemera is something that has been collected and even contained the original letters inside. The sun naturally develops the painted envelopes when I set them outside for a few minutes with the negative sheet on them. The last step was washing away the chemicals to make the image blue. When all of them were dry I nailed them to a board to give it a 3D effect and hung one of the letters out of the middle.

An artist's statement is an artist's written description of their work. The statement is meant to give the viewer understanding.
