Claude Monet Master Copy
To continue our study of color and The Impressionists, we will be creating an Impressionist Master Copy painting of a work of art by Claude Monet. You may choose any painting from the link - http://www.claudemonetgallery.org/ (also linked in the button below). When making your choice, consider your interests and your artistic strengths. You are welcome to bring your own style into the painting, as long as the viewer can still recognize the original painting and as long as you use the short, unblended brush strokes that the Impressionists used somewhere in your painting.
While you are painting, pay careful attention to the original. Remember to draw what you see, not what you know. Look at the shape of what you're drawing and the color that the original artist used. Mix your paint colors with black, white, complementary colors, and other colors to get the hue that you need. Use short brushstrokes and don't blend them out.
Your final grade for this project will be based on the following criteria:
1. Participation - good work habits; project is finished on time; student used time wisely and participated in cleaning up the room
2. Required Components - the student copied an original Impressionist painting, using a variety of colors and visible brush strokes.
3. Craftsmanship - the canvas is covered in paint that is neatly applied. The student wrote the following information on the back: Student Name, Date, Original Artwork Title, Original Artist.
4. Originality and Creativity - the student made an effort to experiment with colors and match them to the original painting. The student's own artistic voice can be seen in the copy.
5. Artist's Statement discussing the student's feelings about the original work of art, why they chose it, what they learned about the work, and their use of color.
